Hurricane Irene forces N.E. Mod Series
Inaugural event cancellation
Due to Hurricane Irene's path of fury expected to impact
the coastal regions of New Jersey and Long Island on Sunday,
N.E. Modified Series Promoter, Mike Odwazny, has been forced
to cancel the inaugural event scheduled for this Sunday,
August 28, at Mountain Speedway in Saint Johns,
Pennsylvania.
"With several race teams expected to attend from New
Jersey and New York, our number one concern is for the
safety of our racers, fans, and their families. We hope to
reschedule with Mountain at a later date, but with Mountain
suffering from several rain outs this season, it will be
difficult to find a new date on their schedule. If need be,
we will seek a new venue.", Odwazny stated.
The
affordable Modified series has sparked much interest since
its inception, and anticipation was high for this first
event. The concept is to provide a Modified touring series
that ANY Modified can compete in, without breaking the bank.

ANY MODIFIED CAN RUN ON AUGUST 28TH!!!
St.
Johns, PA (August 11, 2011)- That's right, N.E. Modified Series
promoter, Mike Odwazny, has announced that ANY Modified can now run
the N.E. Modified Series event at Mountain Speedway on August 28th.
ROC and Tour Type Modifieds can now compete in the inaugural N.E.
Modified Series event, against the finest Sport Modified drivers in
the northeast. This is the first time that anyone has attempted to
blend both the Tour type Modifieds, and Sport modifieds on common
ground.
In
an effort to level the playing field, the ROC/Tour Type Modifieds,
or any dry sump Modified, must weigh 2700 lbs. before time trials
and the feature. Additionally, they will be required to run a track
issued restrictor plate under either the Holley 650 cfm (steel
head), or the Holley 390 cfm (aluminum head) 4-barrel carburetor, to
bring horsepower levels in line with the two barrel wet sump Sport
Modifieds. All cars will be required to run a maximum 13 inch wide
wheel, along with the Hoosier 1070 right side, and 1055 or 1070 left
side tire. One change tire will be permitted during the 75 lap
event.
This
concept of blending all types of Modifieds together has certainly
created a buzz amongst fans of Modified racing, and with the economy
tightening the budgets of all race teams, it could help get more
cars back on track.
Grandstand admission for the afternoon is at the bargain price of
just $10 for adults, with children 10 and under admitted FREE. Pit
pass for the afternoon will be $35, and a $50 race entry can be paid
at the track on race day.
The
Brad Kline Memorial Street Stock Open 50 lap event, along with the
INEX Legends will also be on the race card for the afternoon.
N.E. MODIFIED SERIES READY TO ROLL ON AUGUST 28TH
St. Johns, PA (August 7, 2011)- The much anticipated inaugural event
for the N.E. Modified Series is quickly approaching at full
throttle. Many of the top asphalt Sport Modified drivers have
already shown interest in competing at the Keystone state's 1/3 mile
oval known as Mountain Speedway. N.E. Modified Series director, Mike
Odwazny, will be returning from the Sunshine state for this very
special event. Drivers will be seeing the "green" in more ways than
one, as a cool $1500 will be handed over to the winner. Race teams
from New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania are expected to compete
in the 75 lapper, which will pay a nearly $8500 total purse, with 24
cars entered. Full Story

JUNE 22, 2011
As many of you may already know, I have
been the Chief Steward at Mountain Speedway
for the last five years. Prior to that, I
raced at Mountain Speedway for several
years. I have made many friends (and even
lost a few) along the way. I want to thank
Mountain promoter Joe Callavini, for
believing in me and giving me the
opportunity to learn every aspect of
operating a racetrack. He has been like a
father figure, and I will always remember
him for it.
So, it is bittersweet for me to announce
that as of July 1, I will be relocating to
the Sunshine state, to manage Bronson
Speedway. The promotional team of Ann and
Chris Young have presented me with a golden
opportunity to operate their facility on a
daily basis. This is something that I have
worked hard for, and am truly excited about.
Where does this leave the N.E. Modified
Series?...the answer is, right on track!
The concept of an affordable northeast style
tour Modified series is still not only
alive, but is necessary to the future of
Modified racing. As both competitors and
promoters, we all need to address this issue
immediately.
I personally
will continue to work hard to see this
concept progress toward the original vision.
As you may have already noticed, the
inaugural event is set for Mountain Speedway
on August 28th. Additionally, I will be in
contact with both the promoters of the
North-South Shootout, and the World Series
of racing
in Florida during Speedweeks, to do what I
can to help these events continue for years
to come. And, I will also be working at
building a similar series for Sport
Modifieds at Bronson Speedway, along with
other northeast style pavement Modified
special events. The Youngs are no strangers
to Modified racing, as Chris currently
campaigns a Tour Modified at Riverhead
Raceway on Long Island, NY.
Although I may be a thousand miles away, I
will be recruiting some folks to help carry
the flag of the N.E. Modified Series. We
will continue to move forward, keeping the
future of Modified racing as our focus.
I am also going to be back
for the inaugural event on August 28th...I
wouldn't miss it for the world!
MARCH 30, 2011
Hello and welcome to the official website of the N.E.
Modified Series. My name is Mike Odwazny, and I am the
series director. I wanted to take this opportunity to
explain a little bit about the series, which I like to
refer to as a series...By Racers, For Racers.
First of all, I don't want anyone to get the wrong
impression...I LOVE THE TOUR TYPE MODIFIEDS! But,...they
have become extremely expensive to race, maintain, and
(yes, it happens) repair.
Now,
equally as popular as the Tour Mods here in the
northeast, is what many call "B" Mods. I am not a big
fan of the name "B" Mods...as I like to refer to them as
"Sport Modifieds".
These type of pavement modifieds are very similar to the
Tour type Modifieds, with just a few differences.
Engines are in the 358 cubic inch range, which is a bit
smaller than the Tour types. The oiling systems are wet
sumps compared to the expensive dry sump systems of the
"big brother". A competitive Sport Modified engine is
easily 1/3 the cost of a good Tour type engine. But,
probably the most important difference...is tires. Yes,
you still need to buy them...but, instead of using a
gummy, 15 inch wide tire like that used on the Tour Mods...most
Sport Modifieds use a durable (harder) 10 inch wide
slick such as the great tire that American Racer will be
providing us. This tire puts the racing back into the
hands of both the drivers and crew chiefs. A soft
(gummy) tire has always been a crutch, which many times
was a temporary fix for a mediocre chassis set-up.
So,
you see...although there are very few differences
between Tour type and Sport Mods, these differences are
huge for one very important reason...COST!
With
the economy tightening everyone's racing belts, many top
talents across the northeast have taken to the Sport
Modifieds to get their racing fix. Although many don't
realize it, several top Tour modified drivers already
compete in the Sport Modified type classes at venues all
over the northeast. So, the talent level is already
there. What is different from track to track, is that
rules tend to vary slightly for these similar Sport
Modified classes.
That is where the N.E.
Modified Series
WILL SHINE.
By
blending many types of similar racing classes together,
with a common set of rules...the N.E. Modified Series
has broadened the spectrum, by getting away from the
"tunnel vision" mentality and making it possible for
"ANY" Sport Modified type race car to compete in a
touring series at some of the top racing venues in the
northeast.
For
our inaugural 2011 racing season, it is important to
focus on building relationships with race tracks, track
operators, other teams, and most importantly, the RACE
FANS. We encourage all drivers and crew members to
express your personalities and character...but, just
remember, it isn't always about exciting the crowd with
two and three wide racing, lap after lap, which I know
you are all capable of doing...it's also about PUTTING
ON A SHOW!
LET'S MAKE THIS HAPPEN IN 2011.
